JJB Corporation, a lean manufacturing business based in Norfolk, is one of seven small businesses to receive advice from business guru Deborah Meaden in a new business programme launched by NESCAFÉ® by Nestlé Professional to give practical support to SMEs.
Managing director, Jack Bussey was one of over 800 SMEs to register to receive advice on the series, Let’s Partner Up for Good. JJB Corporation designs and manufactures a variety of products from sheet metal for home, garden, business and industrial use. Following a concept called “2-Second Lean”, the business is focused on making small changes every day to improve products and save time on processes with the overall goal of eliminating business waste.
He appears in the second episode of Let’s Partner Up for Good which focuses on workplace wellbeing. Discussions with Deborah Meaden and Nescafé business experts cover several subjects under this banner including employee culture, self-care and inclusivity.
Deborah Meaden had this advice for the company: “I think productivity genuinely does come from people that are feeling safe and well looked after in an organisation. Find a safe space where people can feel that they can talk about things they need and can show a level of vulnerability. I was involved in a study of 10,000 business leaders and people that worked within their organisations and what came out of that study was that two thirds of people would accept lower pay if they felt that they were in a workplace they really valued them. I do not say that because we can then reduce the pay, but it just goes to show how important it is, and the most important thing was empathy. That was what they want from their leaders. They want empathy. They want people to think that they care. And I think it can be an incredibly powerful tool.”
Jack Bussey, managing director of JJB Corporation, said: “Meeting with Deborah Meaden and Nescafé experts was incredibly insightful. Their advice on balancing workplace well-being with productivity really resonated with me. They emphasised the importance of taking proactive steps, such as initiating more conversations with my team and holding monthly check-ins to better understand their needs. Additionally, they suggested exploring local schemes that could support our well-
being initiatives. This guidance has given me a fresh perspective on how to foster a healthier and more productive work environment.”
In total, seven small business owners are sharing their challenges on business growth, sustainability and wellbeing with Deborah and Nestlé Professional business experts in the 3-episode series.
