Food processing conveyor belt specialist Habasit won the Hygiene & Food Safety category at the Food Processing Awards, with its innovative Super HyCLEAN conveyor belt. The event, hosted by Appetite for Engineering in Coventry, was held on October 13 and winners from across the food sector were recognised for their innovations.
The awards are a recognition of engineering merit and innovation in the food and beverage processing industry. As part of the awards, the ‘Hygiene and Food Safety’ category is dedicated to companies that promote hygienic excellence within the sector through their unique product design.
This year’s category winner was Habasit’s ‘Super HyCLEAN’ conveyor belt. The product was recognised for providing a new concept for plastic modular belting design, which improves hygiene conditions and cleaning procedures in food processing.
“Although hygiene and cleaning have always been important for the food processing sector, this need has become especially important in the last few years,” explained Chris Price, HabasitLINK Modular Product Specialist. “Our Super HyCLEAN belt has a unique design to eliminate areas where debris from protein processing could become trapped and form a breeding ground for bacteria and biofilm, whilst delivering a significant improvement in cleanability”
Independent tests found that Super HyCLEAN delivered time and rinsing water volume savings of over 50 per cent compared to the best-in-class modular belting available on the market. Furthermore, microbiological swab tests and CFU testing, showed the belts developed 20 times fewer bacterial colonies compared to the market-standard hygienic modular belts.
Habasit Super HyCLEAN is ideal for use in meat, poultry, and fish processing applications and has been designed to deliver a fast return on investment by significantly improving plant availability and sanitation efficiency. This can be further improved when used in conjunction with the industry leading Plug and Play Clean in Place system (Habasit CIP system).
Jason Peel, Managing Director of Habasit UK enthused: “The award is a recognition of Habasit’s commitment to maintaining the highest standards of hygiene in the food industry and its efforts to innovate in the sector with products that adhere to cleanability and sustainability goals.”
