Promtek, a leader in automation and bulk material handling process control, has announced a new partnership with Spruceland Technologies Group Ltd. This partnership will be long term, sustainable, and supported by the best local engineering talent in Zambia and the UK, bringing industry leading technology, expertise, and skills to customers across both continents.

Promtek, which was established in the UK’s Midlands in 1972, sees the partnership as a mutually beneficial, highly effective agreement that will see knowledge and best practice sharing between the two companies.

Spruceland sees itself as a first world company working in a third world country, and is keen to develop and expand into other African markets through knowledge sharing and a synergy of purpose. The company currently works with the mining industry, agricultural and animal feed companies, amongst many others. Promtek is the ideal partner as the company has shared a similar journey as an automation and weighment solutions company on the African continent.

Together the two businesses’ customers will further benefit from having the right solution for the right market. African customers will benefit from extended access to technological and environmental research and development, and will gain insight from automation trends learnt from Promtek’s worldwide customer base. This knowledge will then be leveraged by the Zambian company to meet local demands and secure substantial capital investment.

Charles Williams, Promtek Managing Director, explained: “There is a synergy between the two companies. We know the journey they can take, because we went on that same journey. This is an excellent opportunity to work with a purpose driven business just like ourselves.”

The Spruceland Technologies range is the most comprehensive in Zambia and Southern Africa. The company deals with both general weighing equipment and advanced weighing systems for specific industrial, commercial and general sectors. The company is working with a local technical college to help close the skills gap in Zambia and Promtek is delighted to assist with this aspect of the partnership as it is a keen advocate for apprenticeships in the UK.

Promtek and Spruceland agree that this new partnership is a longstanding agreement. Tailored solutions, not yet available in the Zambian market, will be made available as part of the joining of the two companies – providing enhanced performance, efficiency and reliability.

Dingiswayo Phiri, Spruceland CEO and founder, added: “Promtek has an established and strong reputation in designing and integrating process control and automation systems across the world. We see this partnership as key to our development and growth as a company, and are excited about sharing our expert knowledge of the Zambian market to the benefit of existing Promtek customers as well as all the prospects out there waiting to benefit from our joint expertise.”

Automation is a fast-growing market in Zambia, and Promtek’s Condor platform solution will see factories and businesses digitised, and cloud computing utilised to quickly replace these older paper-based systems, resulting in efficiency savings and downtime reduction.

Charles Williams concluded: “Automation is a bourgeoning market in Zambia with a lot of potential for growth in the areas of weighment and stock management. The tremendous growth potential is almost threatening to overflow and cause a breakdown in the service market associated with automation solutions. The StoraWeigh platform is ideal to solve this issue and we are excited to get on the ground to develop this solution together.”
