Pennine Healthcare, one of the UK’s leading employee-owned manufacturers and distributors of single-use, sterile Ward and Theatre Consumables and Custom Procedure Packs, proudly welcomed students from John Port Spencer Academy and Anthony Gell School to its Derby headquarters for MAKE UK National Manufacturing Day 2025.

The event gave students an interactive introduction to the world of manufacturing, while showcasing how Pennine’s medical devices play a vital role in supporting healthcare professionals worldwide.pennine healthcare logo

The day began with a welcome session and an introduction to Lean Six Sigma, showing how Pennine uses these principles to maintain quality and efficiency across its processes. Students then toured the facility, meeting team members from engineering, operations, quality control, and product development, gaining an understanding of the diverse career opportunities available within the sector.

As part of the Manufacturing with Purpose session, students explored Pennine’s three core values: Protecting Life, Empowering Colleagues, and Enriching Communities. They learned how these values shape everything Pennine does, from designing products to forming partnerships, and discovered that every item manufactured has the potential to save or improve a life.

The day ended with the Assembling Challenge, where students built their own procedure packs. This hands-on experience highlighted the precision and care needed to maintain the highest standards in medical device manufacturing and gave students a deeper appreciation of how every step in the process supports safe, effective patient care.

Sarah Glover, Business Services Administrator at Anthony Gell School, shared her thoughts:
“We are delighted to have the opportunity to attend Manufacturing Day here at Pennine Healthcare. All the students were excited to take part in such an informative and educational experience.”

Dan Wilson, Head of Marketing and Communications at Pennine Healthcare, added:
“At Pennine, we are committed to living our purpose, Protecting Life, Empowering Colleagues, and Enriching Communities each day. Hosting Manufacturing Day 2025 gave us the opportunity to inspire young people and demonstrate the rewarding careers manufacturing can offer.”
