To support the integrated delivery of complex mechanical systems for offshore, marine and industrial applications, specialist engineering company, MintMech, has opened a new engineering and manufacturing facility near Falmouth.
The 750 square metre Automation, Manufacturing and Engineering Centre (AMEC) combines a 30-seat design engineering office with dedicated workshop and lay-down space, allowing complete mechanical, hydraulic and control systems to be designed and built prior to deployment anywhere in the world.
At the opening ceremony, attended by business leaders from a range of sectors, director and cofounder Jack Berryman said, “MintMech turns eight this August and our new headquarters marks a major milestone in the next chapter of what we do. It represents a step up in how we deliver projects. Through AMEC, we now bring engineering analysis, design, build and commissioning together under one organisation.”
Cofounder Laurie Thornton said, “Traditionally, complex projects are often split across multiple suppliers, which can create delays and issues at the interfaces. AMEC allows us to remove that fragmentation.
“Beginning at the analysis and design stage and ending with commissioning the finished solution on site, we can deliver complex systems with a single point of responsibility, grounded in engineering analysis and offshore experience.”
AMEC has been set up to support the delivery of complex, multidisciplinary systems through a phased build approach, giving greater control over interfaces and integration, and reducing the risk that typically arises across multi-supplier builds.
The facility will support applications including mining and geotechnical drilling systems, hydraulic power units and offshore handling equipment, with a focus on delivering fully assembled systems ready for mobilisation.
AMEC has received £250,000 from the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. It has been developed to support the energy transition and bring specialist engineering capability closer to the projects that need it.
MintMech is a specialist engineering firm operating in the offshore wind, marine construction and mining sectors. To see some examples of recent projects, go to www.MintMech.com.
