Lane Electronics wide portfolio of connector accessories are designed for high-performance applications including defence and aerospace as well as demanding industrial applications and motorsport. A large stock of protective caps for circular connectors and standard backshells in many sizes and finishes are always available for immediate delivery, with no minimum order quantity or value requirement. Lane Electronics can also supply a range of adhesive lined and plain shaped heat shrinkable boots, nut plates and gaskets to complete product final assembly.

Backshells for MIL-DTL-38999 and 26482 Circular Connectors.

Manufactured in the UK by Weald Electronics, these sealing and strain relief backshells have been designed for MIL-DTL-26482 Series 1 and MIL-DTL-38999 (D38999) Series III and IV connector systems. Known as the LMA19 series, the backshells protect the cable and the integrity of the overall connection. They eliminate cable bending and over-flexing, and when used with a heat shrink boot they prevent the ingress of liquids and dirt.

New 90⁰ Weald Backshells added to the extensive range of connector accessories.

The new LMA19 H 3 Series 90⁰ Backshells from Weald Electronics   are manufactured in accordance with the M85049/90 specification for use with D38999 series 3 connectors, and the LMA19 D 3 Series of 90⁰ Backshells are manufactured for use with 26482 series 1 connectors.

The 90⁰ Backshells allow for a more compact bend than a conventional 90⁰ heat shrink boot while still providing good mechanical protection and EMC performance. It is frequently the case that a 90⁰ Backshell can provide a tighter bend radius than the jacketed and screened cable would allow on its own.

A common use is to be fitted on plugs at the end of cables that are connecting to the front panel of equipment, the compact dimensions allow the cable to be kept away from the equipment while in use. When used in this manner the same teeth that mesh with the teeth on the back of D38999 connectors allow the angle to be set or ‘clocked’ in a convenient position helping to direct the cable away in exactly the desired direction.

Key features include:

  • Compatible with MIL-DTL-38999 (D38999) Series III and IV or MIL-DTL-26482 Series I circular connectors.
  • Manufactured in accordance with the AS85049/M85049 specification dimensions.
  • Currently available in Aluminium and Nickel Aluminium Bronze materials.
  • Two-part design allows uncoupling for inspection and repairs without damaging the boot.
  • Full 360⁰ screening against EMI/RFI interference.
  • Supplied with a with a tool-free constant force spring or band strap.
  • Alternatives to D38999 type strain relief backshells/adapters from Amphenol (BK4 and BL1), Polamco/TE (91,97 and BT Series) and Glenair (440-030).
  • Provide cable support to prevent bending and over flexing as well as protect against the ingress of water and dirt when used with a heat shrink boot.
  • Maintains the environmental integrity of Lane Electronics’ circular connector systems including Eaton’s Souriau 8D/D38999 series and Weald’s popular LMH series.
  • Suitable for use with MIL-DTL-26482/38999 circular connectors from many other manufacturers.
  • Standard versions available from stock with no minimum order quantity or value.
  • Special products available quickly from enquiry to delivery.

Lane Electronics also supply  heat-shrinkable moulded shapes and adhesives, produced by HellermannTyton who are recognised as a leader in this key sector. The products include heat-shrink tubing, heat-shrinkable strain-relieving boots for connector backshell to cable transitions, as well as specialised shapes in a wide range of sizes, materials, and adhesive options.

Protective Caps for MIL-DTL-38999 and 26482 Circular Connectors.

A new range of protective caps designed for high performance circular connectors that meet the requirements of MIL-DTL-38999 and MIL-DTL-26482 has recently been introduced by Lane Electronics. These have been developed to compliment Lane’s offering of Souriau 8D, MIL-DTL-38999 series 3 connectors and LMH, MIL-DTL-26482 series 1 connectors manufactured by Weald Electronics.

Machined from Aluminium alloy for strength and light weight or Nickel Aluminium Bronze for superior corrosion resistance, the caps come equipped with fluid resistant gaskets for maximum protection. Users can specify woven restraining cords, Teflon coated wire rope or chain Lanyards. LMH series connectors are particularly suited for defence and aerospace applications as well as demanding applications across many other sectors of industry including factory automation, medical systems and industrial machinery.

Designed to offer the same level of performance when the connectors are not in use, other models available also include those specifically designed for use with Souriau’s 8STA connectors in motorsport applications.

The protective caps for 8STA connectors are available in two versions – standard and ultra-lightweight. The standard versions, which are manufactured by Souriau, are machined from solid material and are available in 13 sizes and 4 types. Featuring an anti-vibration locking design, the standard caps have an operating temperature range of -55⁰C to +175⁰C.

The ultra-lightweight versions, manufactured by in the UK by Weald Electronics, are machined from solid Aluminium and provide a corrosion resistant cap for 8STA connector plugs and receptacles. The caps are up to 35% lighter than current models, feature an anti-vibration locking design and can be supplied with or without a flexible, stainless steel micro wire rope lanyard.

In addition to Backshells and Protective Caps Lane Electronics is an ideal source for all key connector types including circular, filtered, RF, coaxial, sub – miniature, backshells and adaptorsD connectors, aerospace, test & measurement, IDC, PCB connectors, edge connectors and connectors for rack and panel applications.
