Argyll firm Midton is setting its sights on growth in the awards manufacturing sector following significant investment in the technological capabilities of its Lochgilphead foundry.
As Europe’s leading foundry – and one of only a few worldwide – producing cast acrylic products, and using specialised sustainable acrylic materials which it has pioneered, the Argyll-based business is accelerating its capabilities to meet demand from the events industry.
An impressive new biomass-powered autoclave – part of a recent £429,000 investment to increase the foundry’s output and drive efficiency – is already proving to be a game changer in both the scale and the speed at which Midton can manufacture its sought-after acrylic awards.
Working closely with its growing and varied client roster which includes Royal Television Society, Universal Music Group, Irish Recorded Music Association, Gay Times, Virgin, and Scottish Influencer Awards, to name a few, Midton’s Made in Britain quality assurance, as well as a strong focus on sustainability, is reinforcing the foundry’s competitive edge.
Adding to this, Midton’s pillars of high-tech production, innovative end-to-end design, skilled in-house craftsmanship, large-scale account management, and seamless logistics is seeing demand soar for its prestige acrylic offering.
As advocates for sustainable manufacturing and waste reduction, Midton has pioneered Remade; a groundbreaking range of recycled acrylics, developed from reclaimed offcuts, which can be transformed into beautifully crafted awards. This innovative new material significantly reduces the consumption of virgin plastics without compromising on creative expression. Remade by Midton is an exciting solution which is proving popular with the Lochgilphead foundry’s environmentally conscious consumers…and high-profile award recipients!
Alongside its bespoke UK-based manufacturing, Midton provides creative and technical input for its growing awards business during the design development stage – unlocking unique colours, optical effects, embedments, and forms that are only possible through specialist casting. Additional layers of service offered by Midton – clear points of difference which are helping to drive the foundry’s growing success – include unique packaging and presentation systems, short production lead times, repeatability of orders with variations, and the creation of digital-physical hybrid awards with QR codes.
Commenting, Graham Ramsay and Craig Cameron, Directors of Midton said:
“The manufacturing of custom acrylic awards is the foundation of Midton’s business, and an important part of our growth strategy to grow our awards business by 20% year-on-year, working closely with our valued network of agents. Significant investment has been made into the foundry’s manufacturing capabilities, particularly with our new large autoclave for curing castings. This is proving to be a game changer in the scale, complexity and higher-quality casting work Midton is now positioned to undertake.
“At Midton, we firmly believe that sustainable manufacturing is not just a responsibility, but an opportunity to shape a better future. We are particularly proud to have created Remade; an exciting and cutting-edge sustainable product that is brought to life in our facilities in Lochgilphead. Remade is a remarkable alternative to virgin acrylic, offering a unique and eco-friendly solution that sets us apart. Midton’s commitment to the circular economy shines through in every aspect of Remade, making it a groundbreaking choice for our environmentally conscious customers who value both style and substance.”
