Borough Broth Company, the British organic bone broth brand, has today announced that it has secured £7.5 million investment from Piper, a leading consumer specialist investor, to support its next phase of sustainable growth. The funding marks a significant step in the company’s mission to make sustainable nutrient-rich food mainstream.
The investment from Piper will fund Borough Broth’s next phase of growth in building the category-defining brand in naturally healthy, sustainable, and convenient food. This will include the relocation to a new West London manufacturing facility – more than doubling the current capacity, a strengthened senior team, and continued innovation across new product organic categories such as soups, stocks and gravies.
Founded by Ros Heathcote in 2015 with just £6,000 borrowed from a friend, Borough Broth has grown from a small London kitchen into one of the UK’s fastest-growing organic, B Corp–certified and women-built brands. With no prior experience in the food industry, Heathcote transitioned from a career in data analysis and business intelligence to create a business built on precision, integrity, and purpose.
The company began by reclaiming bones from the meat industry that would otherwise be wasted or used for pet food, turning them into deeply nourishing, organic bone broth – the original example of circular, sustainable food.
The brand is highly versatile, tapping into a consumer demand for healthy and convenient meal solutions across the day. Among Borough Broth customers, 57% primarily use it as a cooking ingredient (adding flavour to soups, sauces, stews, rice dishes and roasts), 24% drink as a hot and comforting healthy drink, and 19% consume it for its functional benefits (gut health, immune support). Being high in protein and collagen, it’s also used for longevity (joint health, skin and ageing).
Having raised just £783,000 in angel investment to date, Borough Broth has achieved an annualised revenue of circa £11 million, with forecasts to exceed £20 million in 2026. The partnership with Piper represents the company’s first institutional investment, providing the foundation for its next phase of expansion.
Borough Broth manufactures all its products in-house at its West London facility, employing a team of more than 50 people. From sourcing to production, the business is guided by a belief in protecting human health, biodiversity, and the planet through organic, traceable, and regenerative practices, ensuring that not only the cleanest ingredients are used, but also the highest animal welfare standards.
A purpose-led partnership
Rory Gibbs, Partner at Piper, said: “Borough Broth is perfectly positioned at the intersection of taste, health, sustainability and convenience. Ros has built a truly special brand with exceptional products and purpose at its heart. We see huge potential to grow Borough Broth into a household name, one that leads the conversation around healthy, nourishing and sustainable eating.”
Ros Heathcote, Founder and CEO of Borough Broth Company, said: “We have built Borough Broth with great care and discipline, raising just £783,000 in angel investment to reach this point, and that focus has shaped who we are. I started Borough Broth to help people feel genuinely nourished by real food made the right way, and partnering with Piper means we can bring that mission to even more people. Piper invests in purposeful brands and their shared values genuinely matter to us. This partnership validates how far we have come, and we are energised to grow while staying true to our principles and delivering a strong, sustainable return for Piper’s investors.”
Strong retail growth
In the past twelve months Borough Broth has also achieved major national listings in both Sainsbury’s and Tesco, adding to its well-established presence in Ocado and Waitrose. The brand’s Sainsbury’s range expanded further this autumn (to include three new products – Organic Grass-Fed Beef Bone Broth, Organic Free-Range Chicken Pho and Sustainably-Caught Wild Fish Bone Broth).
The brand’s award-winning range, including its chicken and beef broths, Tonkotsu Ramen and Pho, have also earned nine Great Taste Awards.
